Nionios — Shadow Theatre Puppet

Description

A character created by Mimaros, Nionios comes from Zakynthos. He dresses in European fashion, as elegantly as his poverty allows, wearing a frock coat and a top hat. He always enters the stage singing a Zakynthian serenade. He speaks the local dialect with its distinctive features, particularly its rapid delivery. Dignified, good-natured and cultured, he satirises the fallen or self-styled aristocrat who boasts of noble ancestry.
