Description
The leading character of Greek shadow theatre. His patched clothes and bare feet reveal his poverty. He has three children and lives in a dilapidated shack. Bold, exceptionally clever, resourceful and inventive, he is full of cheerful realism. He teases everyone, but above all he makes fun of himself. In the traditional repertoire, Karagiozis personifies the Greek people: his appearance symbolises their flaws, his hunchback their hardships and his bare feet their poverty.
Made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride), a popular and practical material for shadow theatre puppets. It offers durability, flexibility, light transmission and ease of working.
